The amount of money owed to Louth County Council in rent arrears has passed the €2 million mark.
The revelation comes amid calls from Director of Services Frank Pentony for evictions to take place for those who are not paying rent.
Speaking in yesterday’s Dundalk Democrat, the former Town Clerk said he was not convinced that not all tenants cannot pay, adding that there are “people who just won’t pay.”
Earlier this week it was revealed that 876 households owe money to the council with over 1,100 of the tenants having outstanding payments due of 12 weeks or more. This accounts for €1.78 million of the arrears, up by over €60,000 since the last report in July.
